Together these clubs work under the umbrella of the UIMF to sponsor events which 1) raise awareness of mountain, including in the State of Utah, sustainability topics, 2) bring the public into contact with international guests and foreign dignitaries, or 3) bring communities together to recognize their shared mountainous heritage.  Members of the UIMF gain professional skills through an engaged learning model by addressing real-world problems of mountain communities as a group with a faculty serving them as a mentor.
